I spy... Jablonec (XIX)

Things to know about Jablonec
Last season: 3rd
Qualified through: League Position
Coach: František Komňacký
Star: David Lafata
Links to Örebro: We have a sorry European record, we know.  Leaving aside the Intertoto Cup, we have beaten only two teams. At the first occasion, against Avenir Beggen from Luxembourg, we used too many non-Swedish players and were disqualified.  So there is really just one team.  And that team is – Jablonec.  In 1997, we qualified for the main UEFA Cup tournament after beating Jablonec on away goals, no goals in Örebro and 1-1 in Bohemia.
Comment:  Jablonec is a small town in what is sometimes called Sudetenland (before the World War II primarily inhabited by Teutonics).   Jablonec’s first spell in the elite group of Czech football was back when the teams last met.  The last few years, under coach Komňacký, the team is back in the top, finishing 2nd last season and 3rd this one.  The team did however not impress in the Europa League qualifier last year: the team was beaten badly by Apoel Nicosia.
This is how we beat them: Jablonec were lethal in the league last year, much thanks to prolific striker Lafata, top scorer in the Czech league and a regular in the national team.  Lafata is now a target in this summer’s transfer market, and without him Jablonec will look less threatening.
Chance of Örebro winning: 50%
